Why Cub Scouts?

If you are on our page, you probably are already considering joining cub scouts. We may be biased, but we think you should do it!

At Pack 1110 we think that cub scouts is one of the premier organizations for introducing your kids to life changing experiences and friends that last a lifetime.

Cub Scouts Motto is “Do Your Best” and this is different from the Scouting America Motto of “Be Prepared”. At the elementary school level while in scouts we just want the kids to start trying things and to do their best. It may not be perfect but things rarely are. You can never learn something new if you have to do it right the first time, you just have to “Do Your Best”.

The Scout Oath and Law are two more important parts of scouting and they don’t change as the kids get older because these are the foundation of everything in scouting. The Scout Law has 12 points. Each is a goal for every Scout. A Scout tries to live up to the Law every day. It is not always easy to do, but a Scout always tries.

Scout Law

A Scout is:

Trustworthy.

Loyal.

Helpful.

Friendly.

Courteous.

Kind.

Obedient.

Cheerful.

Thrifty.

Brave.

Clean.

Reverent.

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

In Cub Scouts the kids are working all year to ear belt loops or pins in order to earn their annual rank. They also earn patches for different events and activities. The kids love these little items and they encourage them to earn finish the adventures. Some of the parents can get a bit into the patches as well (I may or may not still have every patch from when I was a scout…).

Each year the basic adventure topics stay the same but the complexity goes up as the kids advance.

Adventure Topics

  • Required Adventures
    • Character and Leadership
    • Outdoors
    • Personal Fitness
    • Citizenship
    • Personal Safety
    • Family & Reverence
  • Elective Adventures
    • Cycling
    • Fishing
    • Camping
    • Pinewood Derby
    • Team Building
    • and so much more!

To earn the rank each year a scout must complete the six required adventures as well as at least two elective adventures. A sample of the electives is listed above.

Most adventures are designed to be completed in one to two meetings meaning we are presenting them pins and belt loops hopefully every monthly pack meeting!

At the end of the day, for many of us, scouting is a great excuse to play with our kids and enjoy the outdoors together. We may be teaching them important topics, but we always try to do it in a fun and engaging way with tons of fun and games throughout!

If you want to join us at Pack 1110 in Katy, TX we meet monthly at the VFW Post 9182, typically on the second Monday each month September through May. Join the pack by going to beascout.org and completing the application.

Hopefully we will see you on the trail!
